Choose the Simple Life

Become a member of our farm for the 2010-2011 season.

You will receive at least 6 to 8 different types of vegetables and herbs each week during the growing season. Our farm grows over 50+ varieties with a focus on unique heirloom vegetables. Every family is different, but your share will supplement your grocery store purchases, bringing up to the gourmet level, and provides enough food for a vegetarian couple or an average family of four. Our purpose is to provide the freshest, chemical-free produce harvested within hours of pick up! Our produce will be fresh, nutritious and taste like veggies should!

There will be, as farming goes, times of greater varietal choice in what you will be receiving than at other times. The vegetable selection in a weekly share is determined by what’s in-season and available for harvest on the farm. There is no choice, by the consumer, of what goes in the share. This is called ‘eating in season’. We want you to be pleasantly surprised each week when you receive good tasting, healthy and nutritious foods grown just for you. We will also include recipes to give you new ideas on how to prepare vegetables you know and those you’ve never tried!

About Gateway Organic Farm

Our family farm is a tiny 100' x 1388' strip of land in the heart of Pinellas County, Florida --the most densely populated county south of New York City. We are 3.19 acres of urban paradise!

Gateway Organic Farm is a former landscape nursery in transition to a series of wonderful herb and vegetable gardens. After years of neglect, the sandy soil has become fertile and robust with the addition of composted organic matter and now yields a bounty of beautiful produce each week at harvest.

Our goal is to provide the freshest vegetables, herbs, and flowers to our CSA members and local Tampa Bay chefs who share our love of "slow food." Hydroponics trials are underway using OMRI approved nutrients. Naturally grown and pesticide free is our pledge.

Now is the end of our harvest season until November.

We will continue to be open by appointment and will announce special open house dates and pick up times for honey, herbs, flowers, and eggs over the summer. Folks (prospective CSA members) can e-mail us or call to schedule a tour. Volunteers can continue to contact Denise and she will coordinate days/times for them accordingly. Please sign up for our newsletter to receive updates about our internship options.

When you buy a subscription or a membership in a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, you are supporting or subscribing to a farmer -- in this case to Pamela and Hank at Gateway Organic Farm.  You are supporting clean, locally produced food, and developing a relationship with our community and our land.

We are creating a unique opportunity for you to receive a weekly share of seasonal produce harvested fresh from our farm. We share a commitment with our members and hope for a bountiful harvest worth celebrating.

As committed members, you pre-pay for a weekly supply of produce.  This helps cover our cost for seed, organic fertilizers, equipment, labor, etc.  We plan and work the farm to provide our members with an equal share of seasonal produce.  The share of produce is available for pick-up every week during the growing season, Nov – May.

By becoming a member in Gateway Organic Farm, you share in the risk of farming. If we cannot provide food (due to things beyond their control such as weather related events like an early freeze, hail storms or floods) - the risk is shared among the members of the "community". You can trust that we do everything in our power to make sure we are all fed!
